2024: The Pacific Northwest

We were last there in 2016 and look forward to seeing all of our friends and making new connections!

Once again, we will be in wooden boat shows, protest against the Bangor Nuclear-Armed Submarines, the Indian Island Munitions Depot near Port Townsend, and Fleet Week in Seattle.

And as always, we will have educational programs and ask politicians to support the UN Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and other measures to pull us “Back from the Brink” of nuclear war!

Thank You for the New Sails!

THANK YOU so much to our supporters who donated generously to pay for the sails! The sail cloth and sails have arrived in Costa Mesa, where Bob Kettenhofen and his son Alec will create the mainsail, mizzen sail and two sail covers as well as apply the Veterans For Peace and Peace Sign logos!

The Kettenhofens love our project and gave us a GREAT PRICE! Soon the Golden Rule will be able to sail around Humboldt Bay!

There are always repairs and maintenance projects (it’s a boat, after all). We also need to have enough money for docks, crew food and travel, brochures and t-shirts.

Thank you all of the people who have contributed their love, time and money to the unique mission of the historic Golden Rule anti-nuclear sailboat. Because of you we have made many friends and educated tens of thousands of people about the continuing dangers of nuclear war, and we have helped build support for the United Nations Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

This would be a great time for an infusion of cash and a vote of confidence for our continuing mission. Thank you so much for being part of the Golden Rule family!

VFP GOLDEN RULE PROJECT

The Golden Rule is a project of Veterans For Peace. We aim to advance Veterans For Peace opposition to nuclear weapons and war, and to do so in a dramatic fashion.

We have recovered and restored the original peace ship, the Golden Rule, that set sail in 1958 to stop nuclear weapons tests in the Marshall Islands, and which inspired the many peace makers and peace ships that followed.

The reborn Golden Rule is sailing once more, to show that nuclear abolition is possible, and that bravery and tenacity can overcome militarism.

If you’re interested in crewing, please fill out a crew application at vfpgoldenrule.org/crew-application

The Golden Rule crew spreads the word about the continuing dangers of nuclear power, and the poisoning of the air, water and soil from the entire nuclear cycle, from uranium mining to the disposal of nuclear waste.

We are so thankful for our many supporters.

Humboldt Bay VFP Chapter 56 continues to donate to the Golden Rule. San Diego VFP Chapter 93 continues with its monthly sustained donations of $100 with a challenge to other chapters to do the same.

“There is lots of excitement and many people are stepping up to help make the Golden Rule voyages successful,” said Helen Jaccard, Golden Rule Project Manager.

Send us your favorite photos from our voyages to vfpgoldenruleproject@gmail.com! We would love to post them on our website and Facebook page.

Resolutions in support of Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons

Cities, counties and states are adopting resolutions to support the U.N. Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW). For example, the California Legislature approved this resolution: California TPNW Resolution Here’s the announcement. Los Angeles and Baltimore have passed similar resolutions. Please encourage your city, county and state to do the same!

On November 6, 2019, the City and County Council of Honolulu (entire island of O’ahu) unanimously passed a resolution urging the US government ratify the TPNW and other measures to bring us back from the brink of nuclear war – the resolution also welcomed the Golden Rule to Hawai’i!
